Writing a Film Analysis

Requirement for
Short Film Analysis

After reading the appropriate chapters in Understanding Movies, viewing the film clips associated with the chapter, and selecting a short film, you will write a 500-750 word analysis of a film you select from You Tube. Your analysis will demonstrate an understanding of the film element described in the assigned chapter.

Let’s assume you decided to watch My Name is Lisa the same week you read the chapter on “Photography.” You would write your analysis focusing on photography in that film.

In your film analysis, you should make specific references to the textbook. You also need to incorporate research into your analysis; research that helps set the film in its historical/cultural context.

One way to incorporate research into a film can be seen in Haley Vingsness analysis of Schwarzfahrer.
