Advancing Course Objectives

Participating in the discussions especially advances the following course objectives:

• Explain the historical development of film.
  We will be comparing these two films to other films from different historical periods. Also, part of the reason I choose these films was so that you would be exposed to movies that are from different historical periods than the ones that you likely watch.

• Demonstrate how film and society have influenced each other.
  Part of the discussion over these two films will be to place them in their historical context.

• Realize the potency of film as an aid in discovering, transforming, and instilling values in individuals and a culture.
  As we discuss how race and disabilities are portrayed in films, we will be considering how they influence the values of individuals and culture.

The reading assignments and research you do to prepare for the discussion will also help advance the objectives I have listed above.

It is likely that the discussions will develop in such a way that the other course objectives will also be advanced.
