Effective E-mail

Dr. Berg reading in the pool.

Shortly after this photograph was taken, I e-mailed it to two colleagues explaining how hard I was working on a research project. Surprisingly, they did not have any sympathy for my labors.

Verify Your E-mail Address

Remember to verify your e-mail address. If you do not have a valid e-mail address registered in BlackBoard, you will not receive e-mail messages I send to you.

When you E-mail Me

Generally, I am a sane person who really wants you to pass this class; a sane person who will go out of his way to work with you. Unfortunately, sanity does have its limits.

You need to be warned that I get very cranky when it comes to e-mail. Therefore, it is important for you realize that your e-mail messages will be declined if:

  • The subject line of the e-mail does not begin with ENG200.
  • The text of the e-mail is not signed with both your first and last name. (Even if your name appears in the "From:" line, your e-mail must still be signed.)
  • The text of your message is rude or unprofessional.

You might want to consult Effective E-Mail Messages.

I am sorry that I have to take such a draconian stance toward e-mail, but I have encountered serious e-mail problems during previous semesters; problems that seriously detracted from smooth class management.

If you follow the guidelines, you can expect to have e-mail answered within 48 hours--but weekends don't count.
